The World U20 Junior Rapid Chess Championship and the World Schools Rapid Chess Championship are concluded in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

IM Maxim Tsaruk (Belarus) won the open U20 tournament, IM Movahed Sina of Iran took second place, while GM Aleksey Grebnev of Russia won bronze.

In the junior girls' competition, WFM Aliaksandra Tarasenka (Belarus) took first place, WFM Anna Shukhman (Russia) is second, and WFM Varvara Poliakova (Belarus) finished in third place.

In the World Schools Rapid Chess Championship, the Russians Egor Korelskiy (U13, open) and Kristina Zavivaeva (U11, girls) became their age group champions. Daniil Voloshkin made it to the third place on the podium with a 4-win in a row finish streak in the U17 open group.

Following a day off, the World Junior and Schools Blitz Chess Championships will start in Tashkent on 6 August.

President of the Chess Federation of Russia Andrey Filatov has commented the success of the Russian players to the TASS news agency:

- I congratulate our players, their coaches, and parents on their great success at the World Junior and Schools Rapid Championships! Our athletes have secured two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

Kristina Zavivaeva and Egor Korelskiy left no chances to their age group rivals and took first places. Aleksey Grebnev and Anna Shukhman fought for "gold" up to the very last moment, but their draws in the final round landed them third and second, respectively. Daniil Voloshkin’s willpower allowed him to win the bronze medal in the U17 open competition: he followed a bad start with four wins in a row to become a prize-taker. I wish everyone good luck at the World Junior and Schools Blitz Championships!
