Russians Take Eight Medals at World Junior and Schools Blitz Championships

Congratulations on this brilliant result!

The World U20 Junior and Schools Blitz Championships are concluded in Tashkent. Denis Lazavik (Belarus) won the junior tournament, Russia's Aleksey Grebnev came second, Iran's Sina Movahed got the bronze.

Aliaksandra Tarasenka (Belarus) took first place in the junior girls' event, while Russia's Veronika Shubenkova and Anna Shukhman finished second and third, respectively.

In the schools tournament, Kristina Zavivaeva (U11, girls) became champion and Egor Korelskiy (U13, open) shared 1-2 places, losing to the winner only by additional tiebreaker. In the U17 group, Daniil Voloshkin took third place, Anastasiya Maslova (U15 girls) was second. Nomina Dormaeva won bronze in the U17 girls' group.

President of the Chess Federation of Russia Andrey Filatov commented on our players' performance to TASS:

- Russian chess players won even more medals at the World Junior and Schools Blitz Championships than in the rapid event. In addition to the five prizes in rapid chess, Veronika Shubenkova and Anastasiya Maslova won silver, and Nomina Darmaeva got bronze. We would like to highlight the "golden double" of Kristina Zavivaeva, a representative of a famous chess family.

This is yet another triumph of our chess school, coaches and parents of our young athletes. The year is still in full swing, but at the World and Asian Championships young Russian chess players have already won 58 medals, including 21 gold ones. I congratulate everyone on this outstanding achievement and wish our players more improvement and new victories to come!
