Russian Senior Championships in St. Petersburg Crosses Line

There are five leaders in the open event, Tatiana Ivanova heads the women's section.

 
Five rounds of the Russian Senior Championships are played in the Olympic Reserve Chess and Checkers Sports School in Saint Petersburg.

Grandmasters Valery Loginov and Sergey Ionov, international masters Alexandr Provotorov and Sergey Pozin, as well as Vladimir Ponfilenok are leading the race in the open tournament with 3.5 points scored. Five players are half a point behind. 

Tatiana Ivanova is the sole leader in the women's event; she's got 4 points scored. WGMs Elena Fatalibekova, Tatiana Bogumil, Galina Strutinskaia, Irina Mikhaylova, and WIM Nina Sirotkina are trailing by half a point. 

The Russian Senior Championships are organised by the Physical Culture and Sports Committee of St. Petersburg, the Chess Federation of Russia and the Sports Chess Federation of St. Petersburg.

The general sponsor of the championship is Gazprom. The CFR general partner is PhosAgro. The tournament's partner is Aeroflot.
