Russian Schoolchildren Lose to French Peers in Friendly Match

Competition takes place in Cap d'Agde.

A friendly match between the Russian players (representatives of Lyseum №180 Polyforum from Yekaterinburg, whose team had shown the best result among the Russian participants at Belaya Ladya in Sochi, and players from Ingushetia) and French schoolchildren finished in Cap d'Agde.

Despite a tough struggle on the final day, the Russian team didn't manage to equalize the score and lost the match 31.5-32.5. Thus, the French players gained revenge after the last year's loss in a similar competition.

The awards ceremony took place at the opening of the 16th international chess festival CAPECHECS. Children were rewarded with presents, diplomas, and medals.

On behalf of the Russian Chess Federation and Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, the captain of the Russian team Artem Pugachev thanked the organizers for their hospitality and invited the French team to take part in the next anniversary edition of Belaya Ladya in 2019.

The trip was supported by the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation.
