Russian Championships Higher League Begins in Obninsk

Eighty-nine players participate in two events.

On 26 June, the first round of the Russian Championships Higher League was played in Obninsk. The open tournament brought together forty-five participants, including two women - Aleksandra Goryachkina and Polina Shuvalova. The rating favourites are Vladislav Artemiev, Sanan Sjugirov, Aleksandr Rakhmanov, Alexander Riazantsev, and Maksim Chigaev. 

The women's tournament with forty-four players is headed by Olga Girya, Leya Garifullina, Anastasia Bodnaruk, Marina Guseva, and Alina Bivol. The first symbolic move in the Girya - Nur-Mukhametova game was made by Pavel Konovalov, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Kaluga Oblast. 

Both tournaments are the 9-round Swiss events. Top 5 finishers in each competition receive the right to play in the 2022 Russian Championships Superfinals.
