Russia - China Match Finishes in Moscow

Boris Spassky was guest of honour at the closing ceremony.


On November 30, the final fifth round of the traditional friendly Russia - China match was played in the Central Chess Club in Moscow.  

In the open section, the Russian team won 3.5-1.5.

Lu Shanglei - Predke Alexandr 1/2, Fedoseev Vladimir - Bai Jinshi 1/2, Sarana Alexey - Xu Xiangyu 1-0, Xu Yinglun - Chigaev Maksim 0-1, Wen Yang - Esipenko Andrey 1/2.    




The women's teams once again made a draw. 

Potapova Margarita - Huang Qian 1/2, Ning Kaiyu - Shuvalova Polina 1/2, Zhai Mo - Garifullina Leya 1/2, Dordzhieva Dinara - Ding Yixin 1/2, Bivol Alina – Zhu Jiner 1/2.




The Russian team won the match in the open section 14-11, while the women's event was won bu the Chinese players 13-12. The total score is 26-24 in the favour of the Russian team. 

Before the awarding ceremony, the participants visited the CFR Chess Museum and listened to an exciting excursion made by the Museum's supervisor, candidate of historical sciences Dmitry Oleynikov. 

The guest honour at the closing ceremony was the legendary 10th world champion Boris Spassky. Chief Arbiter IA Boris Postovsky announced the tournament's results. President of the Chess Federation of Russia Andrey Filatov presented the winning teams (Russian men and Chinese women) with cups. 

CFR President Andrey Filatov: "It is a great honour for us to host this match in Russia and we are glad that the Chinese players compete with our national teams. It is very pleasant that this tradition continues, the matches are evenly played and provide benefits to the athletes of both countries. I'd like to say a special thanks to Boris Spassky who honoured us by visiting the match and thus making it a historical event. I congratulate everybody on the end of the competition and invite the Chinese players to our next big chess tournaments - the King Salman Rapid and Blitz Championships 2019 and the World Chess Olympiad 2020". 

The 10th world champion Boris Spassky: "The matches between the national teams of Russia and China are always a big holiday as two leading chess countries compete in them. I wish chess would make you happy and you would enjoy your play".
