Peter Svidler: I am Grateful for Opportunity to Support Our Doctors

The grandmaster helped hospitals of his native Saint Petersburg.


Donation support from Play for Russia charity tournament was sent to Saint Petersburg.

The eight-time Russian champion Peter Svidler supported the City polyclinic №51 and the Children's consultative and diagnostic centre.   

It was decided to spend 700,000 rubles on purchasing and sending necessary medical equipment for the Children's centre. The Timchenko Foundation directed 12000 medical masks, 1200 FFP3 respirators, 840 medical disposable protective suits, and 164 disposable medical goggles worth 2.5 mln. rubles to both institutions.  

Peter Svidler: "I feel very grateful for having an opportunity to help our hospitals and doctors. I hope that our aid will be effective. Many thanks to those who helped our doctors with money and resources". 

The donation pool from Play for Russia tournament in favour of health workers has amounted to 25 million 600 thousand rubles.

Regardless of final tournament standings, the total prize pool has been shared equally among regional hospitals (specializing, above all, in the patients suffering from the coronavirus) and charity organizations. Going into the tournament, the participants determined the health institutions to receive financial support. 

Co-supported by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, the RAMAX group of companies" and Gazprombank (Switzerland), Play for Russia tournament was organized by the Chess Federation of Russia at the initiative of its participants. Match TV provided coverage of the event in the mass media.
