Peter Svidler Defeats Samuel Shankland in Match in Hoogeveen

A traditional chess festival, which consisted of two matches and an open tournament, finished in Hoogeveen. 

Peter Svidler (Russia) bested Samuel Shankland (USA) 3.5-2.5 in their match. The opponents exchanged blows in first and second games, then a draw followed. The fourth game was won by Svidler who managed to maintain his advantage by drawing two ultimate games.  

All six games with classical time control in the match between Vladimir Fedoseev (Russia) and Jordan van Foreest (Netherlands) were drawn. The Russian won play-off 2-1 to celebrate the general victory 5-4.

Bassem Amin (Egypt), Dmitry Kryakvin (Russia), Eltaj Safarli (Azerbaijan), and Erik van den Doel (Netherlands) scored 5.5 points out of 7 in the open tournament. Semi-final and final matches were held to determine the winner. Amin defeated Kryakvin in the final match to win the tournament. Safari took the third place outplaying van den Doel.
