Olga Girya Leads Russian Women's Superfinal before Decisive Round

Vitiugov and Tomashevsky head the open event.


The penultimate tenth round of the Russian Championships Superfinals was played in Izhevsk on August 21. In the open event, Alexandr Predke got an advantage in the endgame against Vladimir Fedoseev and managed to win the game. Vladislav Artemiev also showed a high endgame technique to defeat Ernesto Inarkiev.

The games Motylev - Matlakov, Jakovenko - Tomashevsky, Alekseenko - Vitiugov, and Sarana - Dreev were drawn.

1-2. Evgeny Tomashevsky, Nikita Vitiugov - 6
3-6. Ernesto Inarkiev, Maxim Matlakov, Kirill Alekseenko, Alexandr Predke - 5.5
7-9. Alexander Motylev, Alexey Dreev, Vladislav Artemiev - 5
10. Alexey Sarana - 4
11-12. Vladimir Fedoseev, Dmitry Jakovenko - 3.5.

Round 11 pairings:

Artemiev - Motylev, Fedoseev - Jakovenko, Tomashevsky - Alekseenko, Dreev - Inarkiev, Vitiugov - Sarana, Matlakov - Predke.

In the women's event, Margarita Potapova managed to refute a risky opening decision by Alina Kashlinskaya and won the game. Alexandra Kosteniuk got an early edge against Zarina Shafigullina to celebrate a victory. Natalija Pogonina beat Valentina Gunina in an endgame with an extra pawn.   

The games Charochkina - Goryachkina, Shuvalova - Tomilova, and Girya - Bodnaruk were drawn.

The final 11th round will start at 12 p.m. (Moscow time). In case of a tie for the 1st place by two or more participants, an additional rapid competition is played to determine the winner.
