Vitaly Mutko Meets With Sergey Karjakin

Russian minister of sports congratulated the grandmaster on winning the Candidates.

Vitaly Mutko, Russian minister of sports, met with Sergey Karjakin on March 30 in his office. The meeting was also attended by Pavel Kolobkov, deputy minister of sports, Nikolay Gulyaev, first deputy of the head of Moscow sports department, Andrey Filatov, RCF President and FIDE Vice-President, and Kirill Zangalis, RCF PR Director and Sergey Karjakin's manager. 

Vitaly Mutko congratulated Sergey Karjakin on winning the candidates tournament, which took place on March 10-29 in Moscow. Thanks to this achievement, Karjakin received the right to challenge the world championship crown in a match against the reigning champion Magnus Carlsen. The match will be played on November 10-30 in New York. This is the first time since 2007 that a Russian player participates in the World Championship match. 

Sergey Karjakin is a peer of Magnus Carlsen – both players were born in 1990. At the age of 12, Sergey Karjakin became the world's youngest grandmaster.

Vitaly Mutko promised to provide everything necessary for successful preparation for the title match. According to Kirill Zangalis, valuable assistance of Sergey Karjakin's personal sponsors, financial company Alpari and developing company Morton, was stressed during the meeting. 

Issues of chess development in Russia were also discussed during the meeting. 

In the end Vitaly Mutko gave Sergey Karjakin and his trainer Vladimir Potkin Letters of acknowledgment and memorable watch from the Russian ministry of sport.
