Levon Aronian Wins FIDE World Cup

Central chess event of the year finishes in Tbilisi.

On September 27, the tie-break games of the World Cup final match between Levon Aronian (Armenia) and Ding Liren (China) were played in Tbilisi.

Levon Aronian, who played with white pieces, convincingly won the first rapid game in the Slav Defense. In the return encounter, Ding Liren got an edge but at one point acted imprecisely, and the the position equalized. However, Black managed to take the initiative to win in a beautiful way.

The final score is 4-2 in favor of Levon Aronian.

It is to be recalled that both finalists have qualified for the Candidates Tournament, which will be held in Berlin in 2018.
