As we reported earlier, Andrey Filatov, the President of the Chess Federation of Russia, Head coach of the Russian national men's chess team, got inoculated against COVID-19 with the Russian vaccine Sputnik V in December 2020. This year, several Russian grandmasters, including the two-time national champions Ian Nepomniachtchi and Evgeny Tomashevsky, as well as journalists GM Sergey and Marina Makarichev, followed his suit.

The Chess Federation of Russia hopes that chess life will gradually return to a normal  (pre-COVID) course. In particular, the Russian Team Championships among men and women will be held on regular dates and at a regular venue. They will take place in the Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina in Sochi, from April 30 till May 11.
