The event was played on a Fool's Day.

The Fool's Day Suicide Chess World Championship took place on April 1 in the Central House of Writers. Moscovsky Komsomolets newspaper is the main driving force behind this event, and Moscow Chess Federation acted as a co-organizer.

The lineup is built of famous chess players, scientists, artists, show-business people, as well as businessmen and politicians. The winner of the candidates tournament, grandmaster Sergey Karjakin, was a special guest at the event.

The competition gathered more than 30 players and was a 7-round Swiss. With one round to play, Andrey Minkov was in the lead with the perfect score. However, in the last round he lost to Alina Bivol, and had to console himself to sharing the first place with Bivol and Sergey Karjakin.

In order to determine the winner, an extra match-tournament was organized, and Karjakin did not give a chance to his opponents. Minkov was second, Bivol finished third.

The fourth place was shared by Victoria Zaryvkina, Maria Manakova, Alexander Nekipelov and Sergey Smagin.
