Ju Wenjun Holds Women's World Champion's Title

Aleksandra Goryachkina lost on tie-break.


The tie-break of the FIDE Women's World Championship Match between Ju Wenjun (China) and Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia) was played in Vladivostok on January 24.  

Aleksandra Goryachkina got good chances in the first rapid game, however, Ju Wenjun managed to survive. The Chinese player had to maintain defense in the second game as well but the Russian didn't get a decisive edge there, and the game ended in a draw. 

Ju Wenjun celebrated victory in the third game as White. The Russian pressed in the fourth encounter but the Chinese player managed to withstand and made a draw. 

Having won the Match 8.5-7.5, Ju Wenjun secured the Women's World Champion's title. 

Yang Wengin, General Consul of China in Vladivostok, Vera Scherbina, Vice-Governor and the Chairperson of the Government of the Primorsky region, Arkady Dvorkovich, FIDE President, and Mark Glukhovsky, Executive Director of the Chess Federation of Russia, delivered speeches at the closing ceremony. 

The speakers thanked both participants, partners and organizers for a great event, underlined the role of the Primorsky region and highlighted a high interest towards the match. 

Representative of Gidrostroy group of companies Lyudmila Shapka presented the players and officials with gifts from the general sponsor.

The prize fund provided by the Organizer is a minimum of EUR 500,000 net of any applicable local taxes. The winner will get 55% of it.

The organizers are International Chess Federation (FIDE), the Chinese Chess Association, Chess Federation of Russia (CFR), and the Government of the Primorsky region.
