Ivan Rozum Wins Russian Cup Stage in Moscow

Marina Guseva is triumphant in the women's event.


The 17th International RSSU Cup Moscow Open 2021 is completed. The final 9th round of the chess festival's main events, the stages of the Russian Cups among men and women, were played in the Russian State Social University on February 28. 

Ivan Rozum became the winner of the open tournament. The grandmaster from the Vologda region scored 7 points out of 9, having edged out six players. Thanks to their superior tiebreak, GM Ivan Bocharov (Novosibirsk region) and GM Nikita Afanasiev (Moscow) took second and third places, respectively.  

IM Marina Guseva (Moscow region) showed a brilliant result at the women's tournament - she scored 8.5 points out of 9 to take first place. IM Anastasia Bodnaruk (Saint Petersburg) won the silver medal with 8 points. WGM Baira Kovanova (Saratov region) is third with 6.5 points. 

The closing ceremony took place on the same day. The RSSU Rector Natalya Pochinok, Advisor to FIDE President Berik Balgabaev, Head of the Development Department of Sberbank-AST Yulia Obalyaeva, and the Tournament Director IA Artiom Akhmetov delivered speeches and gave awards to the winners and medalists at the ceremony.

The strongest juniors IM Rudik Makarian (Moscow), FM Dmitriy Tsoi (Moscow region), and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (Kazakhstan), as well as the winners and medalists of the National Students League Cup FM Timofey Smirnov (Moscow), IM Sergey Drygalov (Kurgan region), IM Arsen Kukhmazov (Moscow), IM Polina Shuvalova (Moscow), WFM Polina Gutkovich (Moscow), and WFM Yulia Grigorieva (Bashkortostan), were also rewarded at the ceremony.
