First Round of Russian Higher League Played in Cheboksary
Not all the rating favourites won.
On the 26th of June, the first round of the Higher League of the 74th Russian Championship and the 71st Russian Women's Championship was played in Cheboksary.
Not all the top seeds won their starting games. Thus, the games Shuvalova - Matlakov, Faizrakhmanov - Rakhmanov, Motylev - Makarian, and Kokarev - Obgolts were drawn in the open event.
In the women's tournament, Ekaterina Kovalevskata lost to Alexandra Zherebtsova and Daria Voit to Ekaterina Nasyrova. A peaceful result was fixed in the Murashova - Girya, Khokhlova - Tomilova, and Faizutdinova - Afanosaieva encounters.
