First Games of Russian Team Championships Played in Sochi

Mednyi Vsadnik defeated Molodezhka in the key match.


The Russian Team Championships started in the Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina in Sochi on November 19.

The first important key match took place in the open event (10 teams, round-robin system). The reigning Russian champion Mednyi Vsadnik (St. Petersburg) faced an ambitious Molodezhka team (Tyumen region). The Dubov - Vitiugov game on the first board ended in a draw by a threefold repetition on the 21st move. The players from St. Petersburg scored two victories on the second and third boards, where Maxim Matlakov outplayed Alexander Riazantsev, and Vladimir Fedoseev beat David Paravyan. Mikhail Antipov managed to win back one point by defeating Pavel Ponkratov. The games Sakaev - Chigaev and Goganov - Yuffa were drawn. Thus, Mednyi Vsadnik won the match by a narrow margin of 3.5-2.5. 

Ladya (Tatarstan) won the match against Achimgaz (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) with the same score of 3.5-2.5. The team leaders' game between Aleksandra Goryachkina and Vladislav Artemiev ended in a draw. 

The team CPRF (Moscow) featuring Dmitry Andreikin, Alexey Dreev, Sergei Rublevsky, Vadim Zvjaginsev, and Vladimir Potkin crushed Cimmeria (Crimea) 5.5-0.5. The M. Botvinnik school (Moscow) defeated Moscow region 5-1, while the representatives of the Moscow Chess Federation bested the Olympic reserve school (St. Petersburg) 4-2.

The women's tournament is played according to the Swiss system with 9 rounds. The reigning champions from Ugra smashed the second team of the Olympic reserve school (St. Petersburg) 4-0. The first team of the Olympic reserve school (St. Petersburg) beat Yadda (Kursk region) 3.5-0.5 (the only draw was made on the first board in the Zherebtsova - Bodnaruk game). The Moscow team headed by Polina Shuvalova won the match against Achimgaz (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) 3-1. Turbonasos (Voronezh region) lost to Cimmeria (Crimea) 0-4.
