First Games of Russian Cup Finals Played in Khanty-Mansiysk

It didn't go without surprises.


The first games of Round 1 of the Russian Cup Finals were played in the capital of Ugra. In the open event, one of the top seeds Pavel Ponkratov lost to Stefan Pogosyan as Black, Dmitry Kokarev defeated Evgeny Shaposhnikov with the white pieces, while Maksim Chigaev outplayed Ilia Iljiushenok as Black. The games Sjugirov - V. Moiseenko, I. Bocharov - Goganov, Volkov - Pridorozhni, Kryakvin - Savchenko, and Afanasiev - Sarana were drawn. 

In the women's quarterfinals, Marina Guseva bested Anna Afonasieva as White and Oksana Gritsayeva defeated Galina Mironenko with the white pieces as well. The games Borisova - Goltseva and Charochkina - Garifullina ended peacefully. 

The return games and tiebreaks if necessary will be played on December 6.
