First Final Game in Tehran is Drawn

Tan Zhongyi will play White in the second game.

The first game of the Women's World Championship Final between Anna Muzychuk (Ukraine) and Tan Zhongyi (China) was played on February 27 in Tehran.

The players had an opening discussion in the French Defense. Tan Zhongyi, who employed this opening as Black, gradually simplified the game and equalized. By the move 25, only queens and minor pieces remained on the board for both sides. Muzychuk attempted to sharpen up the struggle and sacrificed a pawn, but her opponent parried all threats accurately, and a draw was agreed on the move 42 due to the threefold repetition.

The Chinese player has White in the second game, which is played on February 28 at 2:30 pm.
