FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich Opens Riga Holiday Tournament

100 young chess players under 14 years old take part in the event.

The International youth tournament Riga Holiday featuring 100 boys and girls under 14 years old started in the National Library of Latvia on July 19. They represent 7 countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Sweden, and the Netherlands. 

The event is part of the Mikhail Tal Memorial which is organized by the Latvian and Russian Chess Federations and supported by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). 

Arkady Dvorkovich, FIDE President, Aris Ozolins, President of the Latvian Chess Federation, and Mark Glukhovsky, Executive Director of the Russian Chess Federation, delivered speeches in the opening ceremony.  

A master class by GM Evgeny Sveshnikov was held on July 19 as well. 

The event is a 7-round Swiss tournament, which is rated by FIDE. Time control: 60 minutes for the whole game with 10 seconds increment per move starting from the 1st.
