European Youth Championship Begins in Turkey

The majority of rating favourites won at the start.

The first round of the European Youth Chess Championship was played in Antalya on 6 November. Russia is represented by seventy-three participants, who are playing under the FIDE flag. 

The overwhelming majority of the top seeds won their first games, including Roman Shogdzhiev (Open U8), Sofya Kokareva (Girls U8), Nikolay Averin (Open U12), Diana Preobrazhenskaya (Girls U12), Yana Zhapova, Valeria Kleymenova (both Girls U14), Aleksey Grebnev (Open U16), Olga Karmanova, Alexandra Shvedova (both Girls U16), Volodar Murzin, Rudik Makarian (Both Open U18), Leya Garifulina, Mariya  Yakimova, and Alisa Nur-Mukhametova (all Girls U18).   

The event is the 9-round Swiss tournament. The match days are 6-14 November. The games start at 3 PM Moscow time, while the final round begins at 10 AM.
