Esipenko, Wang Hao, Maghsoodloo, and Paravyan Lead the Race in Gibraltar
Kobalia and Antipov are half a point behind.
Seven rounds were played in the Masters event of the Gibraltar International Chess Festival. In rounds 1-7, a player may take a half-point bye without playing, provided he or she gives an adequate notice. A young Russian grandmaster Andrey Esipenko, the leader of the race, exercised that right in Round 7. While Esipenko was enjoying a rest day, he was caught up by Wang Hao (China), Parham Maghsoodloo (Iran), and David Paravyan (Russia).
The leaders have scored 6 points each. The Russians Mikhail Kobalia and Mikhail Antipov are half a point behind.
