Jointly with the Publishing and Printing Association of the all-Russian Society of the Blind "Chteniye," Chess Federation of Russia has published a textbook for the beginners "Chess school "(authored by V. Barsky) in Braille for blind and visually impaired people. Over 650 textbooks have been donated to regional institutions of the BVI Society (schools, libraries, etc.), and yet another 100 copies were handed over today to the General Director of the BVI Cultural and Sports Rehabilitation Complex Vladimir Bazhenov for further distribution.

"Chess is a whole creative universe and a journey to self-discovery for people to enjoy. It is a pleasure to realize that the publication of a textbook in Braille will enable several hundred or even thousand people – both children and adults – to get the first knowledge of chess. If they take to this game, they will get many more opportunities for communication and personal growth. The CFR President Andrey Filatov proposed this beautiful idea, and the team of the St. Petersburg publishing house "Chteniye", headed by Director Oleg Pilyugin, helped bring it to life in the shortest possible time. I thank them for this!" (Vladimir Barsky).

The all-Russian Blind and Visually Impaired society, winner of the "Red Banner of Labour" award, thanked the chess Federation of Russia for help and support, emphasizing the critical role of chess for social rehabilitation of blind and visually impaired people.

Founded in 1958, the International Braille Chess Association, IBCA, currently unites more than 50 countries. The combined team of IBCA has traditionally taken part in the World Chess Olympiads organized by FIDE.
