Biel Festival Starts
Peter Svidler plays a match with Vachier-Lagrave.
The 49th chess festival in Biel, Switzerland, takes place on July 23 – August 3.
The most interesting part of the festival program for Russian fans is a match between Peter Svidler and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. On the first day, July 24, the grandmasters played four rapid games. Vachier-Lagrave won two games and lost one, thus he is leading 2.5 to 1.5. Four classical games will follow on July 25-29.
The traditional open tournament starts on July 25. More than 100 players signed up for this event, including Nikita Vitiugov and Ildar Khairullin.
