Andrey Filatov to Run for CFR President

The elections are to take place on 17 December in Moscow.

Andrey Filatov, current CFR President, Head coach of the Russian national men's team, has accepted the proposal from a number of regional chess federations and put forward his candidacy for the CFR President. In his address to chess fans, Mr. Filatov named the CFR vice-president candidates.

Dear chess fans, dear friends,

The Russian chess players elected me as CFR President in 2014. Our team has achieved much over these years for chess development in our country.

Russia has hosted dozens of international competitions, inclusive of three World Chess Championships, three FIDE Candidates Tournaments, four FIDE World Cups, and two World Rapid and Blitz Championships.

Our chess players have advanced to contest the world champion title as many as three times, and we have yet another match coming up in April 2023.

The Russian team has taken a record number of team tournament medals over these years. Our team's successes have been repeatedly highlighted at a high state level.

Our young chess players keep us happy by winning high-level competitions at their age groups on a regular basis. Veterans and players with disabilities, to whom the Chess Federation of Russia pays special attention, perform superbly.

The Chess in Schools programme has advanced to a qualitatively new level of development. It is actively progressing in our country's 18 regions. Over 8 years, about half a million schoolchildren  and 4000 teachers have participated and passed training in this program respectively. The scholastic tournament "Belaya Ladya" has again become popular and prestigious, with teams from almost every Russian region taking part in it.

On 17 December, 2022, the CFR 15th reporting and re-election Congress is to take place. I have decided to run for another term. I run together with a team of five vice-presidents, to whom I am very grateful for the successful work in the past years. They are Natalya Komarova, Alexander Zhukov, Andrey A. Guryev, Pavel Chinsky, and Sergey Smagin. If we win the elections, we will be able to keep our work developing and popularising chess in our country.

With respect,
CFR President
Andrey Filatov
