Andrey Filatov Awards CFR Golden Badge to Anatoly Karpov

The ceremony took place at the Karpov Children’s Festival.

 

The Anatoly Karpov Children's International Chess Festival opening took place in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry premises on Monday, March 31, in Moscow. About one hundred U-12 boys and girls from almost every region of Russia and abroad have come here to participate in the chess festival.

President of the International Chess Federation, Arkady Dvorkovich, opened the festival. President of the Chess Federation of Russia, Andrey Filatov, presented Anatoly Karpov with the Golden Badge of the Russian Chess Federation, thus recognising yet again the 12th world champion’s outstanding personal contribution to the development and popularization of chess in our country. The CFR Golden Badge has been introduced this year, its first laureates being Yuri Averbakh, Liudmila Belavenets, Anatoly Karpov, Boris Postovsky, and Boris Spassky.

Andrey Filatov also presented Anatoly Karpov with the Art Russe wine and chess set.

The festival’s first day saw a simul given by Anatoly Karpov, who was assisted by well-known GMs Boris Savchenko, Sergei Grigoryants and Klementy Sychev.

Tuesday, June 1, the festival hosts the Anatoly Karpov International Cup (a rapid Swiss system tournament that features the “10+3” time control).
