Alexey Sarana Becomes European Champion

The European Individual Championship, which had brought together 484 players, finished in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. The Russian Alexey Sarana, Kirill Shevchenko (Romania), and Daniel Dardha (Belgium) scored 8.5 points out of 11 each. A tie-break placed them in the above-mentioned order.

According to the Regulations, 23 best players qualified for the FIDE World Cup 2023. Besides Alexey Sarana, the Russians Andrey Esipenko (8 points, 8th place) and David Paravyan (8 points, 11th place) made it to Baku. 

The Russian participants were playing under the FIDE flag.
