Alexander Grischuk: I Would Be Happy if We Managed to Help at Least One Person

Winner of the Play For Russia charity tournament supported the homeless.


Alexander Grischuk, the winner of the Play For Russia charity tournament, has directed his share to the charity organisation Nochlezhka, which helps homeless people get out from the street. 

The grandmaster donated to Nochlezhka the amount of 700,000 rubles, allocating yet another 2.5 mln. rubles for the purchase of individual protection means for its patients and employees. Nochlezhka has received as many as 45,000 three-layer medical masks and 40,000 disposable medical gloves. Money and supplies have been already delivered to the organisation.

The donation pool from Play for Russia tournament in favour of health workers has amounted to 25 million 600 thousand rubles.

Regardless of final tournament standings, the total prize pool has been shared equally among regional hospitals (specializing, above all, in the patients suffering from the coronavirus) and charity organizations. Going into the tournament, the participants determined the health institutions to receive financial support. 

Co-supported by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, the RAMAX group of companies" and Gazprombank (Switzerland), Play for Russia tournament was organized by the Chess Federation of Russia at the initiative of its participants.
