Aleksandra Goryachkina Is Among Leaders of World Rapid Women's Championship

Magnus Carlsen pulled ahead in the open event.


The World Rapid and Blitz Championships go on in the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace, Almaty. The tournaments are the Swiss events with 13 rounds in the Open Section and 11 rounds in the Women's Section with the 15+10 time control.

Magnus Carlsen has taken the sole lead after 9 rounds in the Open Section: the World Champion got 7.5 points. Vladimir Fedoseev, Vincent Keymer, and Nodirbek Abdusattorov are half a point behind.

Tan Zhongyi, Aleksandra Goryachkina, and Shri Savitha are sharing the lead in the women's event with 6.5 points out of 8 scored by each.  

The Russian participants are playing under the FIDE flag. The final rounds (four in the open and three in the women's) will be played on 28 December.
