The FIDE World Junior and Girl under 20 Chess Championships started in Tarvisio, Italy, on November 12. Many young stars are taking part in both tournaments. The top seeds are Jorden Van Foreest (Netherlands, 2616) and Zhansaya Abdumalik (Kazakhstan, 2428).

Russia is represented by Grigoriy Oparin, Kirill Alekseenko, Alexey Sarana, Daniil Yuffa, Alexandr Triapishko, Semen Lomasov, Aleksey Sorokin, Sergei Lobanov, Alexander Timerkhanov, Bibisara Assaubayeva, Polina Shuvalova, Alexandra Obolentseva, Anna Styazhkina, Dinara Dordzhieva, Viktoria Chernyak, and Anastasya Paramzina. 

It’s worth noting that the games of round 1 were not broadcasted online. Meanwhile, rating favourites sufered first losses. Rasmus Svane (Germany), Chithambaram Aravindh (India), Avital Boruchovsky (Israel), Vahap Sanal (Turkey), and Gunay Mammadzada (Azerbaijan) lost their games. Most of the Russian players celebrated victories in round 1.
