First Half of FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament Played in Kazan

Aleksandra Goryachkina leads the race.


The seventh round of the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament was played in Kazan on June 8. Valentina Gunina defeated Tan Zhongyi, while the games A. Kosteniuk - A. Muzychuk, A. Goryachkina - M. Muzychuk, and K. Lagno - N. Dzagnidze were drawn.



Standings after round 7:

1. Aleksandra Goryachkina - 5.5
2-3. Nana Dzagnidze, Kateryna Lagno - 4
4-7. Alexandra Kosteniuk, Mariya Muzychuk, Anna Muzychuk, Valentina Gunina - 3
8. Тan Zhongyi - 2.5

All rounds begin at 3 pm local time.

The winner of the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament qualifies for the World Championship Match with Ju Wenjun (China), where both players will compete for a total prize fund of €500,000, which is 150% percent bigger than in the previous championship match.

The organizers are FIDE, Russian Chess Federation, Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, and city administration of Kazan.

The tournament is sponsored by PJSC PhosAgro and Russian Railways.
