Second Games of the Round 1 End in Tehran

11 matches to be decided on tie-break.

The return games of the 1st round of the Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran were played on Sunday, February 12. Kosteniuk (Russia), Gunina (Russia), Ju Wenjun (China), Muzychuk (Ukraine), Stefanova (Bulgaria), and Batsiashvili (Georgia) won their matches with the perfect score – 2-0. 

Kashlinskaya, Goryachkina, Pogonina (all – Russia), Ushenina, Gaponenko (both Ukraine), Tan Zhongyi, Ni Shiqun (both China), Zhu Chen (Qatar), Padmini (India), Sadaukassova (Kazakhstan), Le Thao Nguyen Pham (Vietnam), Khurtsidze (Georgia), and Cramling (Sweden) also advanced to the second round, winning their matches 1.5-0.5. Olga Girya (Rusia) advanced to the second round uncontested. 

Among those who were eliminated early are Kovalevskaya and Nechaeva (both Russia), Zhukova (Ukraine), Danielian and Mkrtchian (both Armenia), Javakhishvili (Georgia). 

11 matches will continue on tie-break. Some players including Bodnaruk and Charochkina (both Russia), Dzagnidze (Georgia), and Atalik (Turkey) were able to equalize the score following the first day loss. Savina (Russia) will also have to play the tie-break.
