On October 5, the final 11th round of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad was played in Batumi.

In the open event, the Russian national team won the match against France 2.5-1.5. Ian Nepomniachtchi celebrated victory, while Sergey Karjakin, Vladimir Kramnik, and Nikita Vitiugov made draws.

Teams China, the USA, and Russia scored 18 match points each. According to the tiebreaker, China took the first place, the US team is second, while Russia won bronze medals.

The Russian women's team tied the score with China. Aleksandra Goryachkina won, Valentina Gunina and Olga Girya made draws, while Alexandra Kosteniuk lost.

Like in the open event, the Chinese team won gold Olympic medals with 18 match points. Ukraine is second due to inferior tie-break. Georgia 1 took the third place with 16 points. The Russian national team is fourth with 15 points.

President of the Russian Chess Federation, head coach of the national men's team Andrey Filatov:

- First of all, I would like to remind you that this Olympiad was the strongest one in history. Taking into consideration the tournament's development for our team (our loss in the match against Poland and a draw with Serbia), I am satisfied with the finish. Our chess players showed their mettle, and the fact that we scored the same number of points with previous Olympic champions is already a positive result.

I would like to thank the general sponsor of the Russian national chess teams FGC UES which help us hold regular training camps with the best coaches in comfortable conditions. Of course, we are very grateful to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin who found time to meet our teams and wish us good luck.
