Russian Student Championship Finished in Novosibirsk

Players of Ural State Mining University, Yekaterinburg, excelled. 

On August 27, the Russian Student Championship finished in the Research Library of Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU).

The organizers are the Novosibirsk Oblast Chess Federation, Department of Physical Culture and Sport of Novosibirsk Oblast with support of RATM Holding, NSTU, Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Russian Chess Federation, the Russian Student Sports Union, and the National Student Chess League. 

The championship was a 9-round team and individual event (men and women played separately). 

37 sportsmen from 12 regions took part in the competition. Chess players from Yekaterinburg confirmed their status of rating favourites. The 1st team of Ural State Mining University (GM Alexandr Predke and IM Vadim Voiseenko) scored 13.5 points to convincingly win the open event. The team of Siberian Federal University, Krasnoyarsk, is second: IM Dmitriy Khegay and FM Alexandr Piskunov collected 11 points. The second team of Ural State Mining University (IM Semen Khanin and Roman Novoselov) and the second team of Novosibirsk State Technical University (FM Alexey Kamrukov and Nikita Feoktistov) shared 3-4 places with 10.5 points. Thanks to their superior tie-break, the Ural team became the bronze medalist. 

Alexander Predke showed the best individual result (7.5 points) as well. Dmitriy Khegay is second with 7 points. Semen Khanin, Vadim Moiseenko and Evgeny Kardashevskiy have got 6 points. 

The team of Ural State Mining University won the women's event by a significant margin. WIMs Anna Styazhkina and Anastasia Travkina collected 13.5 points. The team of Novosibirsk State University (WFM Daria Rodionova and Anna Koshevaya) ranked second with 8.5 points. The bronze medalist - the Novosibirsk State Technical University team - is 3 points behind. 

Anna Styazhkina scored 8 points to show the best individual result in the women's section. Alexandra Makarenko (Izhevsk State Academy of Agricultural Sciences) is 1 point behind. Karina Ivanova (Moscow State University) became third with 6 points. 

Hereby, the students from Yekaterinburg won 5 medals (4 gold and 1 bronze), while chess players from Novosibirsk have 2 silver medals. 

The best players will become the members of the Russian national team. The winners of the open and women's competitions have qualified to the Russian Championships Higher League-2018.
