Russian Players Become World Senior Champions

The World  Senior Team Championship finished in Dresden. In the 65+ group, the Russian team (Evgeny Sveshnikov, Yuri Balashov, Nukhim Rashkovsky, Vladimir Zhelnin, and Nikolai Pushkov) won the Championship having scored 18 match points out of 18. 

Saint Petersburg (Vadim Faibisovich, Nikolai Mishuchkov, Vladimir Karasev, and Vladimir Shushpanov) took the second place with 14 points having edged out Germany-2.

The U.S. team won the 50+ tournament with 16 match points. England-1 and Lasker Schachstiftung GK (Germany) shared 2-3 places with 15 points. The English team became second thanks to the superior tie-break. 

The Russians Galina Strutinskaia, Irina Kryukova, Nina Sirotkina, Elena Fatalibekova, and Elena Sazonova scored 11 match points to show the best result among women's teams.
