Humpy Koneru Keeps Leading FIDE WGP Leg in Skolkovo

Decisive round is ahead.


The penultimate tenth round of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix leg was played in the Skolkovo business centre on September 21. 

The leader Humpy Koneru made a draw with Kateryna Lagno. The women's world champion Ju Wenjun could have joined her as she had a big advantage in the game with the challenger Aleksandra Goryachkina (it is to be reminded that the crown match will be played in January, 2020). However, Aleksandra was tenacious in defense and managed to save the game in the longest encounter of the day. 

Alexandra Kosteniuk bested Pia Cramling, Valentina Gunina defeated Dronavalli Harika, Alina Kashlinskaya beat Antoaneta Stefanova, while the game Paehtz - Sebag ended in a draw.

The winner will be determined on the final competition day in the leaders' encounter Humpy vs. Ju Wenjun. Other games will be Harika - Lagno, Sebag - Gunina, Kashlinskaya - Paehtz, Kosteniuk - Stefanova, and Goryachkina - Cramling. 

The final 11th round will begin at 13 a.m. (Moscow time).

The prize fund is 80,000 euros.

A vast additional program is organized during the tournament. 

The Skolkovo Cup, a stage of the Russian Rapid Grand Prix, started on September 21. The event is an 11-round Swiss tournament. Alexander Motylev, Vladimir Zakhartsov, Tigran Nazaretyan, Vadim Moiseenko, Aleksandr Shimanov, Alexey Sarana, and Aleksey Ivlev are leading the pack with 5 points out of 6.
