European Club Cup Starts in Greece

The European Chess Club Cup opens in Porto Carras, Greece, on October 11th. 61 teams are taking part in the open event, while the women's section will see 12 clubs. 

The open tournaments is headed by the Macedonian Alkaloid (Dmitry Andreikin, Ding Liren, Pavel Eljanov, Dmitry Jakovenko, Yuriy Kryvoruchko, Trajko Nadev, Filip Pancevski, and Yu Yangyi), the Czech AVE Novy Bor (Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Pentala Harikrishna, David Navara, Santosh Vidit, Krishnan Sasikiran, Markus Ragger, Viktor Laznicka, and Mateusz Bartel), and Odlar Yurdu from Azerbaijan (Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Arkadij Naiditsch, Rauf Mamedov, Eltaj Safarli, Gadir Guseinov, Vasif Durarbayli, Nijat Abasov, and Djakhangir Agaragimov).

Russia is represented by Mednyi Vsadnik St.Petersburg (Peter Svidler, Nikita Vitiugov, Vladimir Fedoseev, Maxim Matlakov, Maxim Rodshtein, Kirill Alekseenko, and Alexey Goganov) and Molodezhka (Vladimir Potkin, David Paravyan, Maksim Chigaev, Daniil Yuffa, Mikhail Antipov, Semyon Lomasov, and Saveliy Golubov).

World champion Magnus Carlsen is playing for Valerenga Sjakklubb (Norway).

The Georgian team Nona (Nana Dzagnidze, Nino Batsiashvili, Bela Khotenashvili, Lela Javakhishvili, and Salome Melia) and Cercle d'Echecs de Monte-Carlo from Monaco (Almira Skripchenko, Deimante Cornette, Pia Cramling, Monika Socko, and Anna Muzychuk) are rating favorites in the women's section.

The Russian teams are Ugra (Anna Ushenina, Natalija Pogonina, Olga Girya, Marina Nechaeva, and Baira Kovanova) and SSHOR (Anastasia Bodnaruk, Evgenija Ovod, Dina Belenkaya, Alina Balaian, and Elena Semenova).

The match days are October 12-18. All rounds start at 3 p.m. (Moscow time).
