Blindfold Chess Record-Holder Gives Simul at Festival in Sochi

Timur Gareyev played against 24 rivals. 

On October 18, GM Timur Gareyev (USA), a world record-breaker in blindfold simultaneous play, contended against 24 opponents at the same time without seeing the board. The event took place in Sochi as part of the XIX World Youth and Students Festival. Gareyev played with a mask before this eyes and on an exercise bike. The grandmaster allowed his rivals to play with white pieces.  

The simul lasted for 6.5 hours and ended with the score 22-2 in favor of Gareyev (he won 20 games and drew 4 games). The following players managed to make a draw: Djavid Shakhbazbekov (Azerbaijan), Georgy Shavlokhov (South Ossetia), Leffad Mokhamed Lemin (Mauritania), and Togrul Hasanzade (Azerbaijan).
