Belarusian Team Wins Mikhail Botvinnik Cup With One Round to Go

The sixth round of the Mikhail Botvinnik Open Cup among teams from the CIS countries and Georgia took place in the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow.

The Belarusian team defeated Azerbaijan 6.5-1.5 Georgia to win the tournament with 1 round to spare. Vladislav Kovalev and his team have scored 34 points. The first tie-break criteria in case of a tie for the first place is direct encounter, but the Belarusians defeated their main rivals - Russians - in the key match.  

The Russians bested Azerbaijan 4.5-3.5 to be on the second place with 26 points.

The Kirghiz team, which made a draw with Turkmenistan, is two points behind.  

The match Armenia - Moldova finished 4.5-3.5, while the encounter Uzbekistan - Tajikistan ended in a draw. 

Round 7 pairings:

Belarus - Kyrgyzstan, Russia - Moldova, Azerbaijan - Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan, Armenia - Tajikistan.
