2019 WTCC: Team Compositions Published

Championships to take place in Astana on March 4-15.

Team compositions for the 2019 World Team Championships (Astana, March 4-15) are published. 

In the open event, Sweden replaced Poland. In general, many well-known players will miss the event. Thus, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Teimour Radjabov won't play for Azerbaijan, Viswanathan Anand and Pentala Harikrishna won't be members of the Indian team, while Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Wesley So, and Samuel Shankland won't come to Astana as well.

The Russian team will be represented by Sergey Karjakin, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Grischuk, Dmitry Andreikin, and Vladislav Artemiev. Captain is Alexander Motylev.

Our rivals will be the teams from Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, England, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Sweden, and USA. 

Team compositions

In the women's section, China will participate without Hou Yifan and the reigning women's world champion Ju Wenjun, Georgia without Nana Dzagnidze, and India without Dronavalli Harika. 

Kateryna Lagno, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Valentina Gunina, Aleksandra Goryachkina, and Olga Girya will play for the Russian team. Captain is Sergei Rublevsky. 

The Russians will compete with the chess players from Armenia, China, Egypt, Georgia, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and USA.

The Astana International Financial Centre will be venue for the WTCC. 9 rounds according to robin-round system will be played. 

The match days: March 5-9 and 11-14. Free day is March 10. The Opening Ceremony will take place on March 4. 

The 1st Quarter 2019 FIDE Presidential Board will be held during the event.
