The FIDE World Chess championship Match between the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and challenger Fabiano Caruana (USA) will be held in London on November 8-28, 2018. The rivals will play 12 games with a classical time control; if the score is equal, the world champion will be determined on tie-break. 

The match days: November 9-10, 12-13, 15-16, 18-19, 21-22, 24, and 26. Free days: 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, and 25 November. If it is necessary, a tie-break will be held on November 28. 

The venue is the College, a breath-taking historic building in the heart of London. A guaranteed prize fund is over EUR 1 mln. The prize fund will be divided 60% for the winner and 40% to the loser if the FWCM ends within the 12 regular games. In case the winner is decided by tie-break games, the winner shall receive 55% and the loser 45%.

The time control for each game shall be: 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, 50 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game plus an additional 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. If the scores are level after the regular twelve (12) games, after a new drawing of colors, four (4) tie-break games shall be played. The games shall be played using the electronic clock starting with 25 minutes for each player with an increment of 10 seconds after each move. If the scores are level after the games in Article 3.7.1a, then, after a new drawing of colors, a match of 2 games shall be played with a time control of 5 minutes plus 3 seconds increment after each move. In case of a level score, another 2-game match will be played to determine a winner. If still there is no winner after 5 such matches (total 10 games), one sudden-death game will be played.

The players cannot draw a game by agreement before black’s 30th move.
