Kortchnoi Zurich Chess Challenge
Kortchnoi Zurich Chess Challenge

A traditional supertournament takes place on April 12-17 in Zurich. This year it is dedicated to the memory of the late Viktor Lvovich Korchnoi.
The participants are Vishy Anand (India), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Boris Gelfand (Israel), Ian Nepomniachthi (Russia), Peter Svidler (Russia), Grigory Oparin (Russia), Yannick Pelletier (Switzerland). The event is a double round round-robin; the first half is played with a neoclassical time control (45 minutes plus 30 seconds per move), the second half is rapid (10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move). The scoring formula for the first half is 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, while in rapid a more standard chess scoring is used.

Both the supertournament and a side event Kortchnoi Open will take place in Kongresshause Zurich, which hosted the famous Candidates Tournament of 1953.

The opening ceremony of the Kortchnoi Zurich Chess Challenge is scheduled on April 12 and will take place in the Savoy Hotel.

The organizers: Zurich Chess Club, Oleg Skvortsov (International Gemological Laboratories, Moscow), Aviora Holding AG Baar, Savoy Chess Corner Zurich and other chess enthusians and philantropists.
